I have created two major installations. The first was an imagined living space during the pandemic. It was ten feet by ten feet by 16 feet high. It was a cocoon or chrysalis of an apartment during shutdown. Everything in it was wrapped like cocoons. The lamp, the laptop, the table and chairs, the bed was a beanbag chair stuffed entirely with single use plastic bags. The walls consisted of sheer gauzy fabric draped from the ceiling. The roof was pieces and scraps of lace wound and bound and hanging with a multitude of felted wool and yarn wrapped cocoons. It was spectacular.

The other installation was an entire house filled with orange pill bottles. I used some to make objects but most were just arranged through every room of a 2000 square foot abandoned house on Governors Island.

Good question, Melinda. If you search ‘Stab Stitch’ some resources come up – theres a tutorial on youtube that you can watch. Hope this helps!

Beautiful work and I can appreciate the time spent on it. I started in embroidery for fashion and I know how long hand work takes.

Adrian creates and I feel what I see in his work. Thank you for this thoughtful interview. I’ve worked with silks and cottons and beads and miles of satin stitches. I’d love to learn his techniques.
