How amazing! I have letters between my parents-in-law during the war (he was on a ship that was torpedoed) – and also some heartbreaking ones from my mother (who was a patient in a psychiatric hospital – probably for post-natal depression) and my father. Both these couples wrote regularly while apart. No letters, naturally, when they were together again.

Thanks so much Andrea. Yes it’s so funny how some letters (and people) just fascinate me and others not so much. I’m not sure if I would like to know more about this couple or not – there’s something I rather like about just having a tiny glimpse into their lives. I’m looking forward to Stitch Club too!

Janice – thank you so much. This was a really lovely interview for me to do because it allowed me to tell the story behind this piece of work and for me this is always the fascinating bit. I’ll draw on this piece of research and the thoughts linking to it for a long time, so there will probably be many more pieces in the future inspired by Peggy & Jimmy. And yes I would love to write a book but it’s completly wonderful to be asked to be in other artists!

I’m really intrigued by the young couple now and would love to peek into their lives. What a fascinating way to create beautiful stitches. Looking forward to your project with stitch club.

I have followed you and your work for several years( your patchwood etc and would so love to a course with you). But this has really touched me and made me even more appreciative of you research and work. It’s about time you produced a book about your work rather than just appearing in other people’s books! Stay safe. This was totally fascinating

Thank you Rae and I completely agree. I find that when I start the process of exploring my thoughts or emotions around a subject I have absolutely no idea of where it will take me – for me that’s the value of mind mapping!

Oh how right you are Helen in that one piece of work always seems to lead into another as more thoughts occur. I have since done more work based on this young couple and their letters. In the new work I hope I was kinder and better represented their relationship. I did feel rather bad for extracting the ‘juicy bits’ from the letters and in so doing twisting the meaning… but then that leads on to a completely new thought about today’s media. A thread of thought is never ending!

Thank you Laura for the absolutely lovely words – it truly means a lot when people just ‘get’ it! And I love the word (he)artistic!!

Thank you Jennifer and I do so love when something I have said or stitched inspires others. Enjoy working with your pieces – I do wonder what they will say to you!
