Hi all, with all this sunshine I had to come up with a bright sunny workshop! This is a ‘tag-team’ two day event! We call this “JaM’n Tulips” for Judy Marble who teaches sun- painting fabrics on day 1 and I, Michele (hence J&M) who will be helping you use those fabrics on day 2 to create a free form tulip quilt about 18″ x 30″. The photo is a small mock-up of example design. No pattern, templates or pins!!! Just rotary cut, stitch and press.
Soup 2 Nuts!
Poppy Workshop fun in Keene NH!
Here are a few pix from Sat. 4-28-12 workshop of Poppies in Keene NH. Everyone had fun and made themselves a unique piece! From machine applique and piecing to adding 3D elements, the ladies each created a one of a kind masterpiece.
New Workshops!
Here are a few more one day workshops to choose from. 1. “A Day at the Beach” A 10″ x 10″ piece with free form machine piecing, machine applique, machine quilting and added texture from yarn and broken sea shells. 2. ”Machine Free Motion Quilting Sampler Pillow” 18″ x 18″ This class is designed to help you relax and flow with your machine instead of fighting with it! We work to connect the brain and hand, sometimes harder than it looks. 3. ”Lady Slipper Trapunto Sampler” 16″ x 20″ We experiment with different techniques of trapunto from the ancient way to the machine way! Then play with colored pencils, markers, and crayons to ‘color’ the flowers.

What’s been keeping me occupied in Feb. and March
Hi all, It’s been a hectic few months and here is a peek into those projects.
The first is a 4 piece set of 6 1/2″ squares titled “Along the Beaded Path”. It is currently at the League of New Hampshire Headquarters gallery for a show titled “Giving Back” from April 13 through June 20, 2012.
The other is for the outside show “The Mythology of Rochester” in Rochester NH. This is a public art exhibit where two artists, one writer and one sculptor submitted a myth, either real or fictional, about the Rochester NH area and a sculpture to accompany it. I got the idea to do this and asked Ross Bachelder to write a myth to include elements I’ve been wanting to try. He was very thorough in ferreting out little known facts about the region in the 17th century which he wove into the story, Textilia, and we were on a roll! This piece will be on exhibit from June 1 through Nov.4, 2012. It is treated and ‘sculpted’ and varnished to be weather proof. It is one of the new generation of my “Crystal Quilts”.
Luggage Tags!
Well now, I’ve taken suggestions from friends and family, in my quest for “Small Stuff”. These designer luggage tags will add zing to your travels! And aid in identification. The ‘window’ accommodates a business card or write on the accompanying card. I’m offering them for $15.00 each or 2 for $25.00
The color choices are: Brights; Earth tones; Pastels; Black and White
“Cascade” collaborative effort

Cascade 16″ x 23″
This piece was a collaborative effort with William Mitchell, a serigraph artist from Dover, NH. It was conceived to look like a serigraph from a distance and when you get closer you realize it’s a quilt! We started with a photograph of a small waterfall.
(1) William did the original painting
(2) I made the fabric ‘top’
(3) William then silk screened over the fabric
I layered the top with batting and backing and quilted and hand beaded the water; William then framed it in a maple frame.
More Small Stuff
Here are a few more pieces for the Striving Artist Project. The winter is being kind so far and I have ideas swirling around in my head, I just need to catch some of them!

Trunk Show “Metamorphosis of a Quilt Artist”
Come see the roots from whence this artist sprang. From humble wool squares through bridal design to the latest creations of ‘quilt sculpture’! The natural imagery will transport you to the great outdoors and back through the abstract emotions of color.Trunk show will be held May 8,2012 sponsored by the Sea Breeze Quilters Guild at the Senior Center in Exeter, NH on 30 Court St.
Fat Free Fat Cells in Fabric!
Ok everyone, don’t laugh too hard but here is my first attempt at a blog! I’d like to say I’ll be posting weekly but we’ll have to see what the universe has to say about that. (It is bigger than I am)
My current goals are to continue learning and growing in my fiber filled nest, contrary to my husband’s declaration that I should become famous so he can just drive as a hobby. We might talk more about him at a later date.
Living in New Hampshire and loving the out of doors (mostly without snow) my work is greatly inspired and influenced by nature. I love using color to express feelings like basking in sunshine or relaxing by a babbling brook, then adding texture and fibers and beads to pull you in further.
My most recent piece was for L’Attitude Gallery in Boston for which I do a lot of work and it depicted a ‘Fat Cell’ microscopically. Now, why did they choose ME for the FAT CELL? I ask you! I used heavy quilting in the background, (Boy, tough black on black!) with wool roving for the red and fused and appliquéd the circles then inked and quilted in details. The piece was then wrapped around a ‘wooden’ canvas. 18” x 24”
Currently I am in Salt Lake City celebrating an early Christmas with family and gathering inspiration as I go! The scenery here is out of this world!
After the New Year I will begin work on a piece for Art Esprit in Rochester, NH for an outdoor sculpture to be on display for the summer.
Extraordinary small pieces of inspiration!
As for my idea of creating at least 3 small pieces a week for my “Striving Artist Project” all I can say is, “C’est la vie”. The “Project” is to continually create and try new techniques on small pieces that will be offered for sale for $85.00pp.
I’ve got a few to offer and more will be forthcoming.
